Racing ahead or lagging behind? Territorial cohesion in human development around the globe
This paper proposes new over- and underperformance measures to complement previous measures of inequality and convergence. These measure are illustrated using subnational HDIs for 1778 regions in 163 countries.

Global multidimensional poverty and COVID-19: A decade of progress at risk?
In this paper we evaluate the potential impact of COVID-19 and policy responses on global multidimensional poverty. Our results suggest a potential global setback to poverty reduction of around 9 years.

This paper proposes a measure for deprivation in social participation drawing on philosophical considerations, axiomatic research on poverty and deprivation, and previous empirical research on social exclusion and subjective well-being. The measure is illustrated using German data.

The effect of unemployment on social participation of spouses: evidence from plant closures in Germany
This paper estimates the effect of an individual’s unemployment on the level of social participation of their spouse. Using German panel data, it is shown that unemployment may a strong effects on the social participation on indirectly affected persons, too.

Towards a multidimensional poverty index for Germany
This paper proposes a multidimensional poverty index for Germany. Conceptually the proposed measure is integrated into the capability approach, technically it relies on the Alkire-Foster method. The measure is illustrated using German SOEP data.
